Motorola Deploys WiMAX for Wateen Telecom in Pakistan

Motorola ( News - Alert), Inc. has deployed Wateen Telecom's WiMAX  network in 17 major cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. The two companies have also carried out end- to-end voice and data calls over the network.
Wateen Telecom, part of Warid Telecom International, is using Motorola's WiMAX  technology to provide wireless fixed broadband data services for residential and corporate use. With WiMAX network, Wateen Telecom will be able to create a world-class communications network in Pakistan.
"We set ourselves very ambitious targets and timelines," commented Tariq Malik, chief executive officer, Wateen Telecom in a statement to the press. "Having Motorola design, supply and deploy our WiMAX network has given us a world class network in minimal time. At the same time, we have been able to focus on building other parts of our business. Similarly Motorola is taking control of the network on our behalf under a managed services contract."
According to the news release, Motorola has designed and deployed its WiMAX infrastructure, using IMS  core technology to help Wateen offer voice, data, Internet and multimedia services to its subscribers.

Motorola's WiMAX solutions support fixed, portable, nomadic and mobile applications. The WiMAX access points, customer premises equipment and mobile WiMAX chipsets are part of the MOTOwi4 portfolio of solutions that complement and complete wireless broadband networks.
