(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 18 July 2014 Release date- 16072014 - Brandon, Manitoba - The Brandon General Museum and Archives (BGMA) today announced it will introduce a brand-new exhibit exploring the evolution of telecommunication services on July 19 as part of Doors Open Brandon.

Created with the assistance of the MTS Volunteers, the exhibit features artifacts from Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS)'s historical collection, including an operator switchboard and several telephone sets.

'We wanted to show how important MTS has been, and continues to be, in the lives of Brandon residents,' said Shawn Berry, Chair of the Board of Directors, Brandon General Museum and Archives. 'This exhibit shows how far we have come over the years and encourages visitors to reflect on how technology affects our everyday lives.' Telephone service was first introduced to Brandon in 1882. In 1968, Brandon was the first city in Canada to provide touch-tone dialing with the Contempra touch-tone phone, which will be included in the exhibit. More recently, Brandon residents were among the first in Manitoba to experience LTE wireless technology when MTS launched this service in 2012.

'The City of Brandon has been home to many 'firsts' over the course of our history,' said Pat Solman, Vice President of Consumer Customer Solutions for MTS. 'We'd like to thank the Brandon General Museum and Archives for partnering with MTS and giving us the opportunity to share our history.' Doors Open Brandon will take place on July 19 and 20. The Brandon General Museum and Archives will be open from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. and invites all residents and visitors to explore Brandon's heritage and take part in this free annual event.
