Verizon to Benefit Local Charities Through Its FiOS SoCal Experience Campaign

LONG BEACH, Calif., March 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- To kick off the Verizon FiOS SoCal Experience campaign on March 26, 20 local Verizon employees and the FiOS SoCal Experience team visited the Boys & Girls Club of Pomona Valley to provide $2,500 in technology upgrades to the club's tech room and participate in an educational tutorial on filmmaking. In addition, a $2,500 grant from the Verizon Foundation was given to the Boys & Girls Club of Pomona Valley to purchase video equipment.

Verizon volunteers Zachary Saile (left) and Don Jackson (right) show the teen participants of the video production program at the Boys & Girls Club of Pomona Valley how to film and edit their own videos using iMovie.

As part of the experience, volunteers conducted a tutorial to educate the club's participants on the art of storytelling and on how to film and edit their own videos using iMovie.

Since launching the FiOS SoCal Experience in 2013, Verizon has given $122,500 in grants and Verizon employees have provided more than 1,300 volunteer hours to Southern California charities. In 2015, the FiOS SoCal Experience will continue to make contributions to several Southern California charities including local food banks, various chapters of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Habitat for Humanity. This will include providing tech-based educational opportunities, green building initiatives and volunteer time to help empower local organizations.

To further Verizon's commitment to sharing its success with the local communities it serves, the FiOS SoCal Experience is connecting Southern California residents to their favorite local charities with the Verizon FiOS Connects You To Your Charity Sweepstakes. Local residents can enter the Sweepstakes by completing the entry form found at http://fiossocal.com/sweeps-home/ and submitting a photo on Twitter or Instagram that illustrates their favorite charity, using the hashtag #FiOSConnectsSoCal. One winner will be randomly chosen to have a $1,000 contribution made to the Southern California charity of his or her choice.

The FiOS SoCal Experience is designed to showcase Verizon FiOS technology, including FiOS Quantum Internet, which connects Southern California residents to their family and friends on virtually any device at anytime or anywhere. FiOS Quantum Internet customers receive upload speeds that match their download speeds with SpeedMatch, making it easier and faster for them to share content. The FiOS SoCal Experience includes two custom-designed entertainment vehicles, and the Quantum House, which will be making appearances at major campaign events. The FiOS SoCal Experience will visit community events, festivals and other lifestyle events now through November of this year.

Southern California residents can discover daily locations of the vehicle fleet, learn more about how the FiOS SoCal Experience supports Southern California communities and how they can connect to the local charities they care about most by visiting www.FiOSSoCal.com.
