Cable & Wireless Communications Selects Coriant for Optical Backbone Projects in Jamaica and Barbados

Coriant (News - Alert), a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced that it has been selected by Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC), a full-service quad play telecoms provider operating in 42 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, to enhance the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of its high-capacity fiber optic backbone networks in Barbados and Jamaica. The new super-high-speed broadband infrastructure for Barbados and expanded optical backbone network in Jamaica will leverage the proven capabilities of the industry-leading Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform, including photonic mesh resiliency, low latency coherent transmission, and seamless scalability to high-speed transmission rates of 100G, 200G, 400G, and beyond. The Coriant solution, which includes world-class network installation services, will help CWC continue to deliver an unmatched customer experience in these markets while enhancing broadband connectivity that can serve as a boost for economic development.

"From state-of-the-art quad services to seamless fixed mobile convergence, a flexible and resilient optical transport infrastructure is critical to our ability to bring our customers a premium communications and connectivity experience," said Carlo Alloni, CTIO of Cable & Wireless (News - Alert) Communications. "The hiT 7300 solution from Coriant will put us at the forefront of optical transmission speeds, agility, and availability and help us cost-effectively meet the curren and future bandwidth requirements of our residential and business customers in Jamaica and Barbados."

Widely deployed in Tier 1 photonic mesh networks around the world, the hiT 7300 is a 96-channel coherent optical communications system that supports the transmission of 100G per channel for a total system capacity of up to 9.6 terabits per second (Tbps) per fiber pair. This high-density, highly programmable solution enables CWC to maximize utilization of its fiber infrastructure and lower operations costs while providing the resilient foundation for scalability of up to 13 Tbps per fiber pair as demand for backbone capacity grows over time.

"We are pleased to partner with Cable & Wireless Communications as they expand the reach, quality, and reliability of their broadband infrastructure networks," said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Services, Coriant. "Coriant packet optical transport solutions are designed to unleash the full potential of advanced technologies to help service providers like CWC positively transform the lives of people and the communities where they work and play."

With a superior system architecture and proven coherent optical transport performance, the hiT 7300 supports the efficient transmission of 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps per wavelength while providing CWC a pragmatic path to higher transmission capacities over time with advanced capabilities such as increased spectral efficiencies using flexi-grid, flexi-rate, and super-channel technologies. The hiT 7300's industry-leading implementation of Colorless, Directionless, and Contentionless Reconfigurable Add-Drop Multiplexer (CDC-ROADM (News - Alert)) technology delivers the maximum level of flexibility and adaptability. Leveraging advanced coherent detection capabilities, the hiT 7300 eliminates the need for dispersion-compensating fibers in the network and delivers the low latency performance required for real-time applications such as Internet video, broadcast TV, and cloud computing.
