Keepixo and Broadpeak Enable Scalable Delivery of 4K Live HTTP Television

Keepixo, a leading provider of software-based head-end solutions for IPTV (News - Alert) and OTT, and Broadpeak, a leading provider of content delivery network (CDN) technologies and services for telecom, cable, mobile, and satellite Pay-TV operators worldwide, today announced the integration of Keepixo's 4K encoder with Broadpeak's nanoCDN™ multicast ABR technology.

As household penetration of Ultra HD 4K TVs grows, OTT service providers will increasingly include 4K content in their streaming offerings creating the need for high quality UHD encoders with support for Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) protocol. On the other hand, this will put an increasing strain on network infrastructures to deliver high bitrate content using the ABR HTTP protocols.

Keepixo's AL2000-UHD platform addresses service providers' needs for high quality, multi-profile encoders. It comes in a compact 1U form factor and encodes content into HEVC Main 10 profile with optional support for HDR (News - Alert). Output is available in either IPTV or OTT formats. When used in OTT applications the AL2000-UHD also features a built-in packager which generates an output stream compliant with popular streaming protocols such as Apple (News - Alert) HLS and MPEG-DASH.

Using nanoCDN technology, service providers are able to cost-effectively manage the consumption peaks of live multiscreen services for millions of simultaneous viewers using only a few megabits per second from their network. Through the power of multicast, nanoCDN makes live HTTP video delivery to any device truly scalable, turning millions of broadband gateways or STBs into active components of an operator's content delivery infrastructure.

"hile the new 4K format represents a great opportunity to the whole video industry, it poses new challenges to OTT service providers." said Jerome Blanc, COO for Keepixo. "Our collaboration with Broadpeak simplifies the deployment of 4K OTT services by providing small form factor encoders along with nanoCDN, Broadpeak's bandwidth efficient streaming technology."

"Together with Keepixo, we bring to operators a truly scalable solution that eventually enables a cost-effective deployment of live 4K services to any screen" said Jacques Le Mancq, CEO of Broadpeak.

A demonstration of Keepixo AL2000-UHD encoder integrated with Broadpeak's nanoCDN multicast ABR technology will be available on Keepixo stand (# SU9302CM) at NAB/Las Vegas April 18-21, 2016.
