Extreme Rate Demands from Meredith Corporation Cause NuLink Channel Blackouts

NEWNAN, Ga., Jan. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- NuLink, a leading local broadband and television provider, today announced that it was unable to complete contract renewal negotiations with the Meredith Corporation, the owner of local CBS station WGCL and WPCH (Peachtree TV) due to excessive pricing demands from Meredith.

The failed negotiations come as a result of requests by Meredith to drastically increase fees paid by NuLink in exchange for the right to retransmit its programming signals to NuLink customers. NuLink's parent company was able to reach agreements with almost two dozen other broadcasters of all sizes. These other deals were completed amicably and without any service interruption to customers. Unfortunately, Meredith's unreasonable demands would negatively affect NuLink's service and put additional upward pressure on already rising cable TV prices – which NuLink has pledged to fight as much s possible.

As a consequence of this impasse, Meredith Corporation directed NuLink to discontinue carriage of Meredith's CBS station and Peachtree TV effective at midnight on December 31st.

"As a local broadband and cable company, NuLink's goal is to provide our customers with the best television viewing experience at the best possible value," said Teresa Elder, CEO of WOW!, the parent of NuLink. "Unfortunately, the Meredith Corporation continues to make unreasonable demands, which made it impossible for us to agree to their new terms without negatively impacting our customers' service or increasing their monthly bills. Rest assured, we are working incredibly hard to reach an agreement that is fair and in our customers' best interests."
