Holland's Largest Cable Operator Selects Spirent

By Bob Emmerson, TMC European Editor

Ziggo, Holland’s largest cable operator, has selected Spirent Communications to help monitor network performance and SLA conformance. The solution, which involves both active and passive testing, allows Ziggo (News - Alert) to validate service availability and Ethernet backbone performance.

The operator is using Spirent TestCenter Live for simultaneous on-demand testing and proactive, continuous performance monitoring through a single probe. According to Spirent (News - Alert), other solutions require multiple probes, multiple vendors or multiple operations support systems to achieve the same visibility. Service providers, therefore, benefit from a reduction in the total cost of ownership, and continued operational efficiency over the service lifecycle.

The probe, with support for test and diagnostics as well as performance monitoring, has been specifically designed to maximize cost efficiencies across multiple user groups and serve the testing and monitoring requirements of cable operators as well as telecommunications service providers. A key benefit is a reduction in the number of technician dispatches as well as the ability to proliferate Ethernet backhaul circuits without an equivalent increase in staffing.

“As operators continue to seek ways to meet the demand for services supported by an Ethernet network, Spirent remains the choice worldwide for helping service providers of all sizes address the challenges associated with the rollout and upkeep of such networks,” said John Cunningham (News - Alert), vice president of service assurance at Spirent. “Furnishing cable operators as well as telecommunications service providers, with the ability to automate testing procedures, allow these organizations to perform more tests without relying on expensive human intervention.”
