Dragon-Training Film Now Available on Time Warner Cable

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable On Demand customers now have instant access to “How To Train Your Dragon On Demand,” the animated film starring Gerald Butler and Kristen Wiig. For those of you who don’t know, this animated film centers around a Viking teenager named Hiccup, who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life.

But when he encounters an injured dragon, his world is flipped upside down. We’ll have to see the movie to understand just how, evidently. But the good news is you can do so.

Evidently the story takes place in a mythical Viking world, according to the worldwide brain, Wikipedia, “where a young Viking teenager named Hiccup aspires to follow his tribe's tradition of becoming a dragon slayer. After finally capturing his first dragon, and with his chance at finally gaining the tribe's acceptance, he finds that he no longer has the desire to kill it and instead befriends it.”

So in other words, it’s pretty much a real-life documentary based on a careful, historical reading of Viking culture. They were known for doing things like that, showing up to sack an English monastery and all converting to Christianity instead.

The film was released March 26, 2010, to universally positive reviews, Wikipedia said, tossing in the interesting tidbit that “the film overcame a disappointing opening weekend at the box office to become DreamWorks Animation's fifth most successful film in the United States and Canada (behind the Shrek film series).”

Next up from DreamWorks: A touching, funny, sentimental look at the Vandal culture.
