By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

ARRIS, a communications technology company, recently announced the launch of its Whole Home Solution Media Gateway (News - Alert) in conjunction with BendBroadband, an Oregon-based MSO.

In a release, Amy Tykeson, BendBroadband (News - Alert) CEO, said that “We are very excited to be able to offer our customers so much in such a powerful solution. The ARRIS Whole Home Solution delivers broadcast, On Demand, over-the-top and user-generated content, whole home DVR, high speed data, Wi-Fi and primary line voice – all easily controlled through one simple remote and a customized on screen user interface.   This abundance of functionality in one solution lets us offer an expanded level of service while lowering the cost and complexity of household access.”

The ARRIS Whole Home solution incorporates the ARRIS Media Gateway which acts as a perfectly integrated multi-services platform that equips the entire home as well as each of the television-connected ARRIS Media Players with converged multimedia entertainment.

Compared to the customary E-MTA's, cable set-top boxes, wireless Wi-Fi routers and Cable Modems, the Whole Home Solution with its centralized gateway provides an assortment of multimedia amusement services such as video on demand, narrowcast and broadcast video, media sharing of user-generated content and Internet over-the-top at superior cost-efficiency for households.

Bruce McClelland, ARRIS Broadband Communication Systems president, said, “The ARRIS Whole Home Solution is a disruptive technology solution that will accelerate the transition of content delivery to an all-IP paradigm. We are very happy to be working with BendBroadband, our first announced Media Gateway and Media Player customer on this innovative approach to charting a new direction in personalized customer experience.”

The ARRIS Media Gateway also incorporates a 4-port Ethernet home networking router with MoCA 1.1+ home networking technology and optional 802.11n Wi-Fi and a 6-tuner, multi-room HD DVR with 500 GB HDD storage, in addition to CableCARD restrictive access as well as DLNA support.

An enhanced On Demand multimedia entertainment experience is available through the integration of the gateway with the flexible multi-screen architecture of ARRIS ConvergeMedia Management system.

The solution also includes HD-supporting ARRIS Media Player with front panel navigation, clock and a backlit remote control.
