Time Warner Cable's New iPad App Set to Change TV Viewing

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

If you're a Time Warner Cable subscriber and own an iPad, then there's exciting news in store. Customers can now watch select live cable TV channels from anywhere in the house. This is because Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable has launched the TWCable TV app for the Apple (News - Alert) iPad.

The free TWCable TV app turns the iPad into another TV screen and lets customers navigate on their iPads with the help of a mini guide within their wireless network. This free feature gives customers with Roadrunner or Earthlink (News - Alert) Cable Internet service the ability to watch many of the most popular national channels to which they already subscribe in HD on their iPad. Anyone with a WiFi (News - Alert) connection will also have access to the select streaming live linear television.

In a press release, Rob Marcus, president and chief operating officer for Time Warner Cable, expressed delight on the release of the app, not only because it will allow the company's customer to harness the power of their tablet-type devices but also because Time Warner was the first cable company to have achieved this.

He further added, “Helping our customers see the content they're paying for on multiple devices makes their Time Warner Cable subscription even more valuable, and they can expect much more from us in this space very soon.”

Time Warner Cable is expected to deliver additional services, including remote control functionality, and video on-demand viewing capability.

Once customers download the app from the iTunes App Store, all they need to do is to launch it, log in and scroll through the channel lineup to select preferred programming.
