Xfinity Triple Play Self-Install Kits Now Available from Comcast

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Comcast (News - Alert), a provider of entertainment, information and communications products and services, has announced the release of the Xfinity Triple Play Self-Install Kit. This first-of-its-kind offering is expected to enable customers to choose the time that is best for them to install and activate their Xfinity TV, voice and Internet services online and at their convenience.

The company has also effectively redesigned self-install kits for one and two products, making them easier for customers to use. The new kits are positioned as part of Comcast’s ongoing commitment to refine the overall customer experience. The company is focused on delivering innovative, reliable and convenient service and product enhancements.

The kits offer everything necessary for a quick and easy set-up of Comcast services. A digital set-top box/digital transport adapter, remote control, a high-speed Internet and digital voice modem are all included in the Xfinity Triple Play (News - Alert) Self-Install Kit.

Each component in the kit is packaged with step-by-step instructions printed on the inside of the box lids, offering clearly labeled, color-coded pieces of equipment and cables that are neatly arranged in “a place for everything” accessory tray. Once the equipment is in place, customers can follow the easy instructions for activation, with accessibility online

“We live in an on-demand world where people want quick and easy access to the things that are important to them, and our new self-install kits give customers the ability to install their services anytime and at their convenience, without having to even call us,” said Rick Germano, senior vice president of Customer Operations for Comcast Cable, in a statement. “Making the self-installation experience better and easier is one of several investments to improve the service and support we offer our customers.”

To help the company to revamp its new self-installation kits, Comcast worked with frog design, an innovation firm that works with leading companies to bring meaningful products, services and experiences to market. After a review of Comcast’s existing kits, the frog team developed several concepts that were shared and tested with customers to gather feedback before the final concept was recommended to and adopted by Comcast

“We collaborated closely with Comcast in a design process that focused on how customers could smoothly and easily begin using TV, voice and Internet services out of the box. The result is a truly user-friendly self-install kit,” said Jonas Damon, creative director of frog design. “After all, first impressions are important and resonant with consumers. Unboxing sets the tone for the rest of the product experience and the ongoing relationship between the customer and the company.”

The Xfinity self-installation kits are available online from Comcast, or by phone at 1-800-COMCAST for direct shipment to customers’ homes for a $9.95 shipping and handling charge. The company plans to soon offer the kits at local Comcast service centers for pick-up. The kits are currently packaged in an easy-to-carry, reusable tote bag.
