By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Softel announced that Denver-based Evolution Digital will be a licensed reseller for its MediaSphere playout solutions. Evolution Digital will leverage the MediaSphere product line to offer new interactive solutions to cable operators.

Evolution Digital delivers a complete digital turnkey solution which cable operators can deploy advanced digital cable services by enhancing the utilization of existing cable plant through recapturing bandwidth and increasing their competitive viability.

In a release, Perfecto Martinez, director of engineering at Evolution Digital said, “Our partnership with Softel allows us to enhance the creative and cost-effective solutions we offer to cable operators both today and in the future.”

“This customized MediaSphere platform will allow cable operators to manage multiple networks containing mixed subscriber equipment from a single server, dramatically decreasing the total cost of ownership to deploy our solution. This solution will be offered in a pay-as-you-grow model, allowing cable operators to launch a few sites at first, but grow the system to manage many more as their business grows,” Martinez added.

Evolution Digital has come out with services based on a customized version of the Softel MediaSphere interactive TV playout system in order to send service and event information to its DTA and CableCard devices in subscriber locations. Evolution Digital will also use MediaSphere for making software updates to subscriber devices in an MSO footprint.

Commenting on the partnership, Sam Pemberton, Softel CEO, said that Evolution Digital allows Softel to support the delivery of interactive video services to a wider audience. Evolution Digital uses the capabilities of the MediaSphere platform fully to deliver enhanced video services to more cable operators in North America.

“Softel’s MediaSphere is already deployed at 20 major operators, programmers and developers, delivering leading-edge iTV applications in North America,” Pemberton pointed out.

Softel is a provider of TV and video technologies including subtitling and captioning, interactive TV, MPEG stream processing and multiplexing, opt and ad insertion cuing, and Teletext.

Recently Softel announced that it is demonstrating a new integrated workflow for captioning and subtitling based on integration with Omneon products from Harmonic (News - Alert).
