RedMere Launches One-Piece Cable for Mirroring iPad 2 and iPhone 4 Display on HDTV

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

RedMere is one of the leading providers of smart active cable technology for HDMI. The company will be launching a single-cable solution for mirroring the iPad 2 and iPhone (News - Alert) 4 display to an HDTV. The solution is expected to be made available to consumers in the United States during the summer and will be marketed by the company’s brand-name marketing partners.

RedMere has designed the new cable so that it will be an integrated unit, removing the need for a “dongle” and separate HDMI cable. The new sleek all-in-one RedMere cable will leverage the company’s self-powered integrated circuit which gives users the option of directly connecting HDTV to their iPad 2, iPhone 4, and fourth-generation iPod Touch. They will also be able to connect to any other high definition display or projector.

In a release, Peter Smyth, RedMere CEO and founder said that, “This will be the coolest, most convenient way to show iPad 2 content on HDTVs for friends, family, co-workers, or customers. RedMere’s smart active cable technology lets you do away with the dongle and gives you a portable connection that’s far thinner, lighter and more flexible than conventional HDMI cables. We’re talking about a cable up to 15 feet long which still slips into your pocket or purse – perfect for business presentations, movies, or games.”

Some of RedMere’s brand partners include VIZIO Inc., Samsung (News - Alert), PNY Technologies, Inc., Monster, and RadioShack. The company did not disclose whether these brands or others would market the iPad 2 mirroring cable technology.

Smyth went on to say that, “The iPad 2 is a great portable device for streaming movies and sharing business content. Having a RedMere-powered mirroring cable means always having a simple solution for letting a roomful of people join in.” The price of the product is yet to be announced and is expected to be fixed by RedMere’s partners.
