Next-Gen Xfinity TV Experience from Comcast Powered by Intel-Based Set-Top Box

Comcast’s highly enhanced next-generation Xfinity television experience is to be powered by the CE media processors from Intel (News - Alert). The tie-up was announced by Intel at The Cable Show. The Xfinity experience makes use of user interfaces and guides to enhance televisions to become more social, personal and interactive.

The set top box from Intel was developed and designed by Pace, and now enables Comcast (News - Alert) to provide its customers with services that allow them to have a flawless television experience while enabling easy navigation and search functionality with interactive applications. With the Xfinity already having been an enhanced entity, Intel’s processors that are being used to produce the Augusta (News - Alert), GA market trial versions of the software are set to go higher.

In a release, the Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Digital Home Group, Erik Huggers said that “The new Xfinity TV experience is an outstanding implementation of next-generation television. It takes advantage of the breakthrough technologies in our Intel system-on-a-chip products and is well-positioned to lead the innovation charge as we push the boundaries ever further.”

Intel has also developed the ability to run multiple platform technologies simultaneously with device drivers, using the system-on-a-chip software that allows a higher level of graphics and CPU performance.

The President of Comcast Converged Products, Sam Schwartz said that “Our next-generation Xfinity TV is a platform that brings a much richer, personalized and interactive experience, with the ability to continually improve and expand features for our customers. Partnering with Intel accelerates this innovation through the large community of companies and technologies that support their processors today.”

The President of Pace Americas, Mike Pulli, observed that Intel and Comcast’s tie up on the Xfinity set top box platform has led to consumers getting extraordinary and near-perfect levels of personalization, interaction and ultimately entertainment. This has helped in improving Comcast’s offering to its consumers.
