Canada-based telecommunications company, TELUS, will invest $2 billion in advanced technology over the next three years in Alberta.

Noting that the economic backbone of Alberta relies on investment and innovation, Darren Entwistle, president and CEO at TELUS (News - Alert), said TELUS’ $2-billion investment over the next three years will support significant economic and community development in every region of Alberta.

In Alberta, since 2000, the company has invested more than $26 billion in technology and operations. Across the province, this latest investment is expected to fuel the expansion of TELUS' advanced wireless and wireline broadband networks.

Entwistle said the company will continue to expand wireline broadband access to rural and remote communities and deliver 4G LTE (News - Alert), the world's fastest wireless technology, to more than 80 percent of Albertans by the end of the year.

“We are building the communications technology and infrastructure that will help Alberta companies compete on the world stage, create local employment opportunities, and advance healthcare and education across the province for the benefit of citizens,” Entwistle said.

TELUS is one of Alberta’s largest private sector employers. The company believes this latest investments will result in the hiring of 750 people across the province this year to support the Optik TV and wireless growth.

The company’s Optik TV offers more than 100 HD channels, providing best high-definition (HD) PVE experience. It connects the entire home with 1 PVR, records up to 3 shows at once, stores up to 390 episodes with the largest HD recording capacity and more.

The service is expected to reach nearly 70 percent of Alberta households by the end of 2012.

The company also announced that this year, it’ll extend service to Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Lloydminster and Brooks. There is more to come in the near future if it secures the necessary wireless spectrum via Industry Canada’s upcoming spectrum auctions.

MobileAware, a developer of optimized customer engagement channels, recently announced that TELUS is live and benefiting from its mCare solution.
