TiVo Updates Whole-Home and Multi-Screen Offerings

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

TiVo (News - Alert) has recently announced that the company has updated its whole-home viewing solution. The company has provided an IP set-top box, which offers the TiVo experience on secondary televisions throughout the home. TiVo has also debuted TiVo Stream, which offers transcoding to facilitate content viewing on mobile devices.

To provide users with access to live and recorded TV, operator VOD, plus broadband-broadcasted content on every TV in the house, the IP set-top box supports the TiVo Premiere Q, a home's primary gateway device. This is provided with the help of the unique TiVo experience consumers have come to know and love. It consists of combined MoCA to ease home networking and multi-room applications.

TiVo Stream easily provides the content that is available on the users’ TiVo Premiere or Premiere Q DVR to other screens such as iPads and iPhones. This is the first product to facilitate streaming or download of shows at the same time to multiple portable devices without any problems with the content that’s playing on the television, the company stated in a press release.

"Consumers not only want an enjoyable TV experience, but now demand choice and the flexibility to watch content on multiple devices and screens within the home,” said Tom Rogers (News - Alert), president and CEO, TiVO Inc. “TiVo has worked with our operator customers to create a suite of affordable companion devices that deliver a cohesive experience regardless of the screen the customer wants to use.”

Recently, the company partnered with Pace to announce details of the first product, the Pace XG1, which has risen from a global partnership TiVo and Pace announced in February 2012 to develop flexible, advanced television solutions for operators. By bringing to market the full award-winning TiVo experience on powerful, new platforms designed to be easily integrated with today's cable networks, this new Multi-tuner Video Gateway (News - Alert) from Pace will offer  cable operators in the Americas an advanced television solution for their customers.
