Cisco Videoscape Helps Oriental Cable Network Deliver Multi-Screen Video Experience

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Cisco (News - Alert) reportedly forged a partnership with Chinese cable operator Oriental Cable Network (OCN) in order to build next-generation video experiences for consumers in Shanghai using the Cisco Videoscape platform.

Cisco explained that the Cisco Videoscape is an open platform that uses the cloud, the network and client devices to deliver new video experiences over the internet. OCN’s customers in Shanghai will now be able to use either their PCs, tablets, smartphones or other mobile devices to access the new multi-screen video services.

The Videoscape Quickstart solutions, which consist of Videoscape Media Suite, Content Delivery System for Internet Streaming (CDS-IS), Cisco Media Processor (CMP) and Cisco Digital Content Manager (DCM (News - Alert)), can help OCN create new consumer experiences and let users access content from multiple devices.

The company added that Videoscape lets service providers bring together content from pay TV, online and on-demand sources. They can then combine content with social media, communications and mobility to create a “better than being there” video experience for consumers everywhere, to scale.

Key features by Videoscape are less complexity, more visual, access to social networking sites and an option to view on multiple screens.

“With the immense popularity of mobile devices in Shanghai, it was imperative that we partner with a technology leader capable of enabling our network to progressively scale our services,” stated Liu Jiuping, senior vice president of OCN. “We are very pleased to be working closely with Cisco to deliver a new generation of exciting multi-screen video services for our customers.”

ManageEngine (News - Alert) recently joined the Cisco Developer Network, and NextiraOne (News - Alert) was recognized as Cisco TelePresence Video Master Multinational Authorized Technology Provider partner.
