Entropic Communications Takes Top Ranking in Home Networking Integrated Circuit Space

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Web Editor

It’s a good sign for your business if, at a time when revenue of your competitors in the space is declining, you find that your own company is growing. This is the case for Entropic (News - Alert) Communications, a company that specializes in semiconductor solutions for the connected home. While many businesses in this space have seen their number tumble, Entropic actually saw growth in 2011.

Now, according to a report this month issued by The Linley Group called “Communications Semiconductor Market Share 2011,” Entropic is, in fact, the market leader in this space. The company ranked number one in worldwide revenue of home networking application specific standard products, and is the market share leader in the home networking integrated circuit space, boasting 38 percent of the market.

The company’s home networking silicon and software solutions are based on the Multimedia over Coax Alliance standard, which uses coaxial cable to create a robust, reliable whole-home network for streaming high-definition video.

"Entropic outpaced the semiconductor market, achieving notable growth in 2011," said Joseph Byrne, senior analyst at The Linley Group. "From our research, it is clear Entropic holds a commanding lead in the home networking IC space; as the Company is one of the industry's premier providers of connected home silicon and software, already deployed by many of the world's largest Pay-TV service providers."

The annual report looks at market share data for 20 categories of semiconductor products, including home networking, network processors, 10 gigabit Ethernet components, DSL and PON transceivers and transport ICs, PCI (News - Alert) interconnect chips and high-end embedded microprocessors and more.

For its part, Entropic felt that the acknowledgement showed the company’s commitment to the future. "Entropic's leadership position in the connected home market is a testament to the company's vision, ability to execute and commitment to transforming the way Pay-TV service providers distribute HD content into and throughout the home," said Al Servati, vice president of Marketing, Connectivity Group at Entropic Communications. "We uphold a focused approach to home connectivity, which enabled us to further our customer relationships and maintain our market share lead."
