Conax Provides Content Security to Grupo TV Cable in Ecuador

By David Delony, Contributing Writer

Conax, a provider of solutions for protecting multi-device digital content, has announced a contract with Grupo TV Cable in Ecuador.

Conax will deliver a content security solution for Grupo TV Cable, allowing for prepaid vouchers and pay-per-view programming. The solution will allow TV Cable to expand digital cable into more cities and markets. Evolution Digital is supplying the set-top boxes for the transition from analog to digital.

The goal is to provide cable operators in Latin America to provide secure, reliable services.

“We selected security partner Conax as we needed to minimize potential challenges presented by the development of interoperability with other elements in the total platform,” said Derek Caney, CTO at TV Cable. “Knowing that the Conax/Evolution solution has been very successful and running smoothly at other operations, such as Cablemas in Mexico, was also a key determining factor in our selection.”

“Strong partner relations, innovative and commitment to offer highly flexible solutions to the Latin American market, were some additional factors,” he added.

Conax is very excited about working with TV Cable,” said Rohit Mehra, Conax's VP of the Americas. “Our cooperation provides an important message to the other operators in the region that Conax brings in highly cost-effective, stable DVB Pay TV solutions, along with key partners like Evolution Digital who ensure quality, cost-effective and stable set-top Boxes with an evolving path to Hybrid / OTT products.”

“Conax and partners are able to show a long term plan and product evolution to ensure the operators are able to face the challenges in the market today and plan for future services and products to fight competition and bring in more revenue,” Mehra added.

The carrier is steadily converting its older analog system to a digital system in five smaller markets. TV Cable is offering programming in both standard definition and HD.

“We are honored to have been selected as the set-top provider for TV Cable's move to DVB,” said Brent Smith, Evolution Digital president. “Our goal, along with Conax, is to provide customers with the most secure, reliable and cost-effective solution for deploying digital services.”
