GL's PacketShark Delivers Capabilities on the Go

By David Gitonga, TMCnet Contributing Writer

GL Communications (News - Alert) Inc, a provider of professional telecom engineering and IT consultation services, has announced the PacketShark. This is a portable gadget that can tap packet networks operating at speeds of up to 1Gbps and selectively filter the captured traffic with respect to specified criteria.

The gadget works by transmitting packets through two ports so as to filter off the traffic compliant packets and send them to an analyzer for detailed packet data analysis. An alternative to this approach that comes in very handy when the data to be analyzed is not so urgent is one that downloads the traffic to a memory card to be analyzed later in offline mode.

GL designers have actualized simultaneous capturing from two interfaces and analyzed 100 percent streams at wire speed. This capability gives the PacketShark an edge over normal protocol layer analyzers running on laptops or PCs that are too slow to cater for live full duplex transmissions at wire speed.

PacketShark can be relied on to effectively capture packets at any point of the network, actualize wire speed filtering with zero loss or delay, application of 16 simultaneous filters to the network , firmware filters to identify traffic MAC,IP,UDP (News - Alert) or TCP flow remote access via VNC among many other features. The designers managed to compress all this functionality into a small battery operated instrument weighing not more than 1.2 kg.

Speaking to the press, CEO of the company, Mr. Vijay Kulkarni said,” GL's PacketShark is a handheld unit that can tap Packet Networks, and capture Ethernet and IP packets at wire speed over optical or electrical interfaces of up to 1Gbps.”

He went on to give a detailed description on how the PacketShark integrates with other GL products like the PacketScan to bring out the ultimate result in record speeds.

To any company aiming to deliver quality services to its customers at no delay, PacketShark is one of the many gadgets from GL that should be introduced into the system without any second thought.
