By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

RGB Networks, a  provider of scalable multiscreen IP video delivery solutions, recently announced its award-winning Video Multiprocessing Gateway (News - Alert) (VMG) and TransAct Packager solutions have been selected by HBO Europe, a company providing premium television programming services across 15 European countries.

The solutions will help HBO Europe provide a complete transcoding and packaging solution for its HBO GO live streaming service, which allows subscribers to instantly access over 1,400 hours of exclusive programming.

RGB’s TransAct Packager segments streams using adaptive streaming technology to deliver video and audio to PCs, mobile devices and set-top boxes.

TransAct Packager ingests H.264 encoded video streams carried in an MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) and produces segmented output in Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Microsoft (News - Alert) Smooth Streaming, Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS), MPEG DASH and RTMP formats.

RGB’s VMG product line a scalable solution for the delivery of advanced video services. The only integrated, carrier-class platform of its kind, the VMG covers a range of critical applications, including multiscreen IP video delivery, ad insertion and HD-to-SD downconversion.

The VMG’s advanced transcoding capabilities include MPEG-4/H.264 <-> MPEG-2, as well as bitrate and resolution changes for delivery of premium video to any IP-enabled device. Designed for flexibility, cost-efficiency and reliability, the VMG's modular blade architecture represents a future-proof investment that scales well in the rapidly-evolving video marketplace.

"The ability to access content at any time on any device is redefining the entertainment industry today – the success of the HBO GO live streaming service is [a testament to] this fact," said Ramin Farassat, vice president of Product Marketing and Business Development for RGB Networks. "We are delighted that our products, with their industry-leading stream processing capacity, advanced video processing functions and exceptional reliability, are enabling customers, such as HBO Europe, to meet subscriber demands and reap the benefits of multi-screen's rapid evolution."
