SubscriberWise Safeguards Cable Operators from Fraudulent Service Requests

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

These days, companies are making use of a new class of operational systems called Decision Management Systems to cater to the demands of consumers, regulators and markets. This is being done as conventional systems are too inflexible, difficult to implement in the modern world and cannot apply analytics to take advantage of “big data.”

Recently, SubscriberWise, a provider of analytics driven subscriber risk management technology, announced that the company's decision management technology has saved one if its member operators from repeated fraudulent service requests. These requests kept coming for nearly four years from the same person.

The series of fraudulent requests began in 2008 and continued. There was an application for service from this same individual in six separate occasions. With each service request, they provided a different social security number to hide their true identity from the service provider.

“It’s astounding when one looks at the scale of bad behavior that this individual has engaged over such a long period,” said David Howe, president of SubscriberWise. “This individual has proven relentless. The negative impact this type of criminal activity has on an operator’s daily work-flow and bottom line is astounding. Its impact on law enforcement and criminal justice resources are also significant. I've been informed that this case will likely be filed as a felony.”

In 2011, the company announced the completion of the reviews of credit bureau data from its cable operator members in the United States.
