Virgin TV Anywhere Allows Access to TiVo's 45 Live TV Channels for UK Residents on Mobile Devices

By David Gitonga, TMCnet Contributing Writer

U.K residents will now be able to access up to 45 live TV channels found on their TiVo (News - Alert) DVR and schedule DVR recordings on their computers and mobile devices, thanks to the ‘Virgin TV Anywhere’ service launched by Virgin Media (News - Alert), the No. 1 operator in the U.K.

Customers will also be able to access more than 4,000 hours of on-demand video via a Wi-Fi or broadband connection. The service however will not be able to offer remote TiVo DVR recordings, a particularly desirable feature for TiVo users. Virgin Media has decided to sweeten the offer by offering the TV Anywhere service on the Web, mobile and tablet devices by launching Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod apps. The Android app will be available in 2013.

According to the executive director of digital entertainment at virgin Media, Cindy Rose, Virgin Media’s subscribers are “increasingly looking to access their favorite digital entertainment across multiple screens both in the home and on the go.” The partnership with TiVo will be more than just delivering best in-home hybrid television experience but also leveraging TiVo’s pioneering technology, according to Rose. This pioneering technology is expected to bring a compelling entertainment experience to customers and let them enjoy what they want and wherever they are.

Virgin TV Anywhere will offer a variety of great live channels including Disney, ESPN (News - Alert), Cartoon Network, FX and National Geographic just to name a few. The experience is similar to using Virgin TV box where you will be able to flick through channels and see what is on up to 14 days in the future. You can search for a specific show by name, actor, director or genre, all on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. When you see a show you like, you can also share it with friends on Facebook and Twitter (News - Alert) with the touch of a button.
