The Walt Disney Company, AT&T U-verse Sign Distribution Contract

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

AT&T (News - Alert) U-verse has entered into a strategic collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, or DIS. As part of the wide-ranging long-standing distribution contract, customers of AT&T U-verse TV will be offered Disney’s (News - Alert) varied schedule of the finest quality sports, news and entertainment content. Apart from improving the multichannel business model, the latest contract will assist both the organizations in achieving their objective of offering the finest video content to customers across several platforms.

The multi-year contract will see AT&T U-verse launching numerous services, like the complete portfolio of verified WATCH products, ESPN (News - Alert) 3D, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater and Disney Junior. AT&T U-verse will also launch the forthcoming ABC News/Univision Joint Venture, especially for English-dominant and bilingual Hispanics. The launch of nearly 70 services has been included in the contract.

In a statement, Jeff Weber (News - Alert), president, Content and Advertising Sales, AT&T Home Solutions said, “We’re proud to deliver more Disney content and services to U-verse customers across the screens they watch most. Our U-verse customers expect access to content when they want it, where they want it, and this renewal gives them more value and access to a variety of live and on demand content in and outside the home.”

Current verified offerings like WATCH Disney Channel, WATCH Disney XD, WATCH Disney Junior and Watch ESPN will be available widely to customers of AT&T U-verse via the networks’ individual WATCH sites and apps along with AT&T’s U-verse.com site and apps. Customers will also be able to access the forthcoming WATCH ABC and WATCH ABC Family services. AT&T U-verse customers will therefore be provided an increasing number of prospects for accessing real-time video on demand content.

David Preschlack, EVP, Affiliate Sales and Marketing, Disney & ESPN Networks Group said, “The renewal with AT&T U-verse – our seventh top ten distributor agreement in just over two years – extends the value of the multichannel subscription model with the addition of new networks and services from The Walt Disney Company. Viewers are increasingly living in a multi-screen world, and with this new deal, they will enjoy such benefits as live access to content via the WATCH Disney and WatchESPN services across platforms.”
