SPB TV Releases New and Improved Multiscreen TV Solution

By Daniel Brecht, Contributing Writer

SPB TV, a provider of end-to-end mobile and broadband TV solutions headquartered in Switzerland, recently brought its technologies for mobile, IP and OTT (over-the-top) TVs in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) (MWC) 2013.

During the four-day MWC 2013 event, which concluded yesterday, SPB TV showcased its next generation of end-to-end Multi-screen TV solutions – one that embraces both Internet Protocol television (IPTV (News - Alert)) and OTT (over-the-top) video delivery and playback across all video-enabled devices, to include mobile, PC and traditional TV screens.

Those who were not able to attend MWC 2013 to see firsthand its mobile TV solutions for video content delivery, and hear about how they’ve come to make SPB TV service available on all devices, also missed out on a variety of upgrades to video streaming solutions.

Also featured was the debut of the Media Platform 5.0, which makes it possible to create a sustainable CDN (Content Delivery Network) to deliver live video on-demand (VoD) television channels and subscription services to millions of mobile iOS, Android (News - Alert) and Symbian users around the globe.

SPB TV also introduced its brand new app for Windows 8. This is an addition to those applications that already exist for clients that use WP7, bada, BlackBerry (News - Alert), Maemo and MeeGo.

But it’s not about what one may have missed at MWC 2013, but what is to gain from the new user-friendly TV apps and the new SPB TV Media Platform 5.0, which includes an innovative user interface (UI) for each of the mobile operating systems.

The UI is said to have a clean, well-organized design that augments the actual TV viewing experience for users.

The new SPB TV Media Platform 5.0 especially features Forward Error Correction (FEC) technology, used to prevent package loss, undergoing easy and flexible integration in a content management system (CMS). It also includes a new business intelligence and reporting engine on top of an advertisement insertion on all devices, and offers solutions for content ingestion, encoding and adaptive streaming.
