StarHub TV will be launched on fiber as a new Internet Protocol Television (IPTV (News - Alert)) pay TV service on March 18, 2013 announced StarHub in Singapore.

Lin Shu Fen, StarHub’s vice president of Home Solutions, said, “While DTTV has served our commercial customers well, we have capitalized on the NGNBN roll-out to provide an even better service to this segment of customers.”

“StarHub TV on Fiber marks an important milestone in our pay TV business. Compared to DTTV, we can offer our commercial customers a significantly improved breadth and depth of content, delivered with the assurance of our trademark reliability,” Shu Fen added.

According to officials, the service is being launched for commercial customers at first including offices, restaurants and pubs. The StarHub TV will be delivered over the next-generation nationwide broadband network (NGNBN) in Singapore.

Businesses will get optimum clarity in their high-definition TV content besides receiving several more new TV channels compared to their existing Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV) platform.

Also, StarHub TV on Fiber can be received by current DTTV commercial customers. The service allows StarHub TV on Fiber customers to get prioritized, managed IPTV access since the service leverages discrete ports on the optical network terminal. As the IPTV access is independent of broadband activity the viewing experience is expected to be optimized with respect to picture quality, speed and navigation, revealed officials.

The new user interface will offer customers a smoother seamless journey when interacting with the content. Also the interactivity and personalization features will be enhanced as the service includes Facebook (News - Alert) profile integration and the ability to set unique user accounts.

StarHub is launching the service with more than 100 TV channels which will further increase as more content providers start adding their channels to the service.

Commercial customers of StarHub TV on Fiber can access DTTV channels like BBC World News, Bloomberg (News - Alert) Television and CNN besides many more, including Cartoon Network, NBA TV along with HD channels like FOX HD, Discovery HD World and National Geographic.

Recently, StarHub completed an upgrade to its 3G mobile network with HD Voice, a wideband audio technology which allows more speech information to be sent over the air, resulting in clearer mobile voice calls with reduced background noise.
