Deluxe Digital Distribution Helps Provide Content for Any Device

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

I am sure you know someone who is still rocking an iPhone (News - Alert) 3GS, or maybe even something older and clunkier. But the fact of the matter is, consumers want video content to play on their devices no matter how old the gadgets really are. The challenge, of course, for video content providers is to figure out a way to serve the insatiable need for video content when there are so many different devices out there with so many different requirements. This is where Deluxe Digital Distribution comes in.

D3, as it is sometimes known, is a division of Deluxe Entertainment, and its charter is to simplify video-on-demand for multiple screens. The company has an impressive catalog of more than 40,000 titles, with new content being added every month. The titles, which are a mix of new and classic content, are pre-encoded in 50 different formats. D3 creates these variants so operators don’t have to, and if a title does not exist in their extensive library, they’ll get access to it. The titles are prepackaged with DRMs as well.

Customers come to D3 looking for a rich catalog of content and hoping to avoid headaches by leveraging this pre-encoded content. This is a cloud-based service, so it allow for easy integration. D3 knows how to process and compress files and deliver high-quality encodes at better bitrates, freeing up bandwidth. The barriers to dealing with these title is not about right management, said Kelly Delany, VP of marketing at Deluxe Digital Distribution, but rather it’s about complexity of delivering video on demand to all of those screens. But, since D3 can handle that heavy lifting, the company makes life easier for its customers, which makes it simpler for end users to view the content they want on whatever device they choose.
