By Tara Seals, TMCnet Contributor

Korean telecom giant KT (News - Alert) is dabbling in cloud-based gaming with the launch of a new service that streams HD game content to the TV via an IPTV set-top box.

kt media hub, a KT subsidiary, will deploy the technology for its olleh tv IPTV (News - Alert) service. The game service, called Wiz Game, will launch with popular titles like “LEGO Harry Potter” 1-4 from Warner Bros. Interactive, “NBA 2K13” from 2K Sports and “Dead Block” from Kalypso Media. Additional titles such as “The Witcher 2” and “SuperStars V8 Racing” will also be added in the coming weeks.

Subscribers can tap a variety of game controllers to make use of the service, including Microsoft (News - Alert) Xbox 360 Wired Controller, Cyvox EX3, Cyvox Joytron, Logitech F510 and Logitech F710 (wireless).

Wiz Game is the fruit of a partnership between kt media hub and CiiNOW, which was first announced in April in Seoul. The gaming offering is just one of the six major services planned around olleh tv’s renovated IPTV offering.

“After months of planning and testing, it is a thrill to see our cloud gaming technology go live in the form of a compelling games service now available for KT’s customers,” said Ron Haberman, CiiNOW’s CEO and co-founder. “We are excited to bring a selection of great entertainment content to this growing marketplace.”

kt media hub’s olleh tv is the largest IPTV service provider in South Korea with more than 4.3 million subscribers. It offers a full slate of 200 real-time channels and 130,000 different video-on-demand titles.

“We are committed to delivering olleh tv smart customers with the best content and most exciting entertainment experience available,” said Jae Geon Yang, director at kt media hub. “CiiNOW’s technology enables us to now offer our customers the best in gaming, and we know that Wiz Game will make olleh tv smart users very happy.”
