Bermuda CableVision Invests in TV Everywhere

By Tara Seals, TMCnet Contributor

Bermuda CableVision, which provides digital cable TV and high-speed Internet across its island-wide fiber-based network, is embracing the TV Everywhere concept with the rollout of a mobile app for TV for Android (News - Alert) tablets and smartphones, iPhone and iPad. The service will be available in the home first – and outside the home in the future.

While the U.S. leads the way in TV Everywhere deployments, with most major TV operators offering subscribers the ability to use their subscription credentials to authenticate into an application to watch pay-TV content on mobile devices and PCs, other geographies are ramping up. The result is a rash of new infrastructure upgrades for even smaller providers like Bermuda CableVision.

“With competition and content heating up, pay-TV providers are transitioning their traditional, broadcast-focused video processing environments to ones that can ingest, process, deliver and decode video content from multiple sources,” noted Jeff Heynen, principal analyst for broadband access and pay TV at Infonetics Research (News - Alert). “At the same time, content owners and studios are also adjusting their workflow and video output to support multiscreen and streaming services.”

Heynen added: “The net result of these transitions is steady investment in the platforms necessary to optimize video streams for a growing list of end devices and formats.”

In Bermuda CableVision’s case, it has selected the Azuki Media Platform to support the effort, which will enable the carrier to deploy high-definition (HD) and premium content channels with multi-screen electronic programming guide (EPG) and transactional video-on-demand (T-VOD).

"As the world of multi-screen is evolving and growing, we're proud to have been selected by Bermuda CableVision,” said Cheng Wu, founder and CEO at Azuki Systems (News - Alert). “It's a testimony of Azuki's next-generation TV everywhere technology, which is enabling Bermuda CableVision to deploy a cost-effective multi-screen provisioning platform for dynamic delivery of advanced video services."

Azuki’s platform enables linear live and VOD content ingestion, dynamically and automatically associated with appropriate metadata, entitlements and rights information; simplified workflow, which requires one content preparation for multi-screen devices, via Azuki's One-Pass TVE workflow; real-time enforcement of multi-screen entitlements and parental control, with the Azuki Entitlements Director; robust and normalized functionality across multiple platforms and networks, to ensure consistent quality of user experience and content protection with root-of-trust, with the Azuki Media Client; and real-time content consumption metrics across all screens, with the Azuki Analytics Report Generator.

“By deploying the Azuki platform, Bermuda CableVision is able to take TV Everywhere to the next level and offer the most compelling and engaging multi-screen viewing experience to our customers said Terry Roberson, general manager at Bermuda CableVision,” Wu added.
