Jiuzhou Embeds Entropic's c.LINK 1.1 EoC Broadband Access Solution into HD STBs

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Chinese cable subscribers utilizing Jiuzhou high-definition (HD) “stet-top-boxes” (STBs) can now enjoy advanced, HD video-on-demand services, as Sichuan Jiuzhou Electronic Technology Co. Ltd (Jiuzhou) has integrated Entropic's (News - Alert) c.LINK 1.1 Ethernet over coax (EoC) broadband access solution into its HD STBs.

"To offer value-added VOD services and other advanced IP-based video services, Chinese operators require a rich, robust connectivity backbone," said Jia Biming, GM, Jiuzhou, in a statement. "By leveraging Entropic's c.LINK solution in both the STB and the broadband access infrastructure, subscribers are certain to get a faster, more exciting video viewing experience."

The c.LINK 1.1 EoC broadband access solution, which has been integrated into Jiuzhou’s HD STBs, is based on the EN3511 network controller (NC) and the EN3530 client premise equipment (CPE). It is based on the multimedia over coax (MoCA) 1.1 chipset technology.

Offering low system-cost due to its highly integrated 65nm system-on-a-chip (SoC) and optimized bill of materials (BOM) costs, Entropic's c.LINK 1.1 EoC broadband access solution provides over 270 Mbps of raw data bandwidth and more than 175 Mbps of application throughput.

In addition, the c.LINK 1.1 EoC solution has backward compatibility as well as high immunity to electrical interference and stringent low latency time-division-multiplexing protocol (TDM).

As an ideal solution for MSOs seeking high throughput broadband access solutions to reliably drive more entertainment services and applications to their subscribers, Entropic's c.LINK silicon and software can be embedded into HD STBs. This helps in satisfying consumer demand for high definition (HD) video content across a variety of connected devices.

Single HD STBs embedded with Entropic's c.LINK silicon and software help operators to: better scale from their broadband access network; and offer video-on-demand services quickly and cost-effectively.

According to the company, the Jiuzhou HD STB’s samples will be available in Q3 2013, with production in Q4 2013.
