Verimatrix Security Solutions Chosen by UCN Cable Network

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Verimatrix has entered into a strategic collaboration with UCN (News - Alert) Networks. As a result of the agreement, UCN Networks has implemented Verimatrix Video Content Authority System, also known as VCAS architecture, in order to offer revenue protection for its latest cable service. UCN Networks is a major cable operator providing services in the Nagpur, Vidarbha region of Madhya Pradesh in Central India.

The agreement comes as part of UCN Network’s analog-to-digital transition initiative. VCAS for DVB cardless security solution will not only support UCN’s existing service solution but also support any upcoming services planned by UCN.

In a statement, Ajay Khamankar, director at UCN Cable Networks said, "UCN's transition from analog to digital was an extremely complex undertaking. We chose Verimatrix (News - Alert) as our revenue security partner because of the depth and breadth of the company's experience in other similar -- and successful -- deployments. We knew we could rely on VCAS and the Verimatrix team to provide us with a robust revenue security solution as well as the expertise required to fuel the growth of UCN both now and into the future."

VCAS for DVB was implemented over UCN's current cable network in Simulcrypt mode in conjunction with a legacy CAS from an older digitization stage. The currently installed CAS will now be able to function in parallel, thereby offering services to subscribers who are not in favor of an immediate upgrade. At the same time, UCN will be able to implement VCAS enabled set-top boxes or STBs for new services. Verimatrix’s solution is designed to deliver powerful chip-level security, eliminating the need to administer smart card logistics.

Steve Oetegenn (News - Alert), chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix said, "We congratulate UCN Cable Networks on bringing digital TV to central India. We are delighted to be a part of this exciting new deployment. Over the last few years, Verimatrix has helped many Indian operators meet their digitalization obligations, while also providing them with a strong foundation for future services and revenue growth. It's a very exciting time in the region, and we look forward to continued collaboration with UCN."
