By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

iStreamPlanet will be supporting Microsoft (News - Alert) PlayReady content protection technologies to enhance the security of live, multiscreen streaming that is delivered in industry standard adaptive bit rate formats.

Robin Cole, vice president of business development for iStreamPlanet, said, “iStreamPlanet and Microsoft have long shared the goal of delivering premium content to viewers on any device.”

The company’s Aventus cloud and software-based, live video streaming solution for premium content providers optimizes live streaming. As part of a product service update the company has added support capabilities to the iStreamPlanet Aventus SaaS (News - Alert) (software-as-a-service) solution, revealed officials.

“The combination of PlayReady for content protection and Aventus for live, multiscreen streaming enables content owners to help securely deliver their content and business rules to new distribution platforms,” added Cole.

Recently Microsoft unveiled Ready client SDKs, and made LiveTV feature enhancements to the PlayReady product suite. The PlayReady client SDKs for iOS and Android (News - Alert) have been designed to support smooth streaming and DASH streaming. Microsoft PlayReady ensures that content protection capabilities cover more devices and services with client SDKs and LiveTV in the cloud.

Chris Santini, director, PlayReady business of Microsoft Corp, remarked, “We are thrilled to continue to innovate, along with iStreamPlanet, in the delivery of live streaming, cloud-based protected content.”

The LiveTV features enable automatic key rotation and blackouts for supporting the requirements of content owners. It is also in line with business rules regarding premium content and live linear channels.

iStreamPlanet’s solutions suit the needs of sports, entertainment, and technology brands like NBC Sports, Turner Broadcasting (News - Alert), Fox, AT&T, and Microsoft for telecasting live, online video to global connected audiences.

In August 2012, iStreamPlanet and LiveU (News - Alert) joined to offer online broadcasters a mobile, multiscreen live video streaming solution. The joint solution will integrate LiveU’s cellular transmission backpacks and other devices with Aventus. The combined solution will enable seamless end-to-end live, multiscreen broadcast from any venue or remote location without requiring satellite or fiber connection.
