TiVo (News - Alert) and Control4 Corporation recently announced a partnership which will enable Control4 systems to control features and functionality of TiVo entertainment devices. TiVo cable set top boxes have been designed to ensure complete and easy integration with all home automation solutions such as home audio, climate control and security; the result is a complete customized customer experience. TiVo is a leading provider of advanced television solutions to the cable industry domestically and abroad.

In a release, Jeff Dungan, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain and Business Development at Control4, said, "TiVo has launched an outstanding line of entertainment devices this year and we're eager to help our network of 3,000 high-end, custom installers integrate the TiVo Roamio line of devices into their customers' systems. Interoperability is a major priority for us, so both our dealers and customers can count on their Control4 system to communicate with and manage virtually every device in their homes or businesses."

With the opening of the API, TiVo will first deliver access to, "Now Playing information" and "TiVo Peanut remote" feature. Additional integrations of TiVo features and services will be included subsequently. Control4's Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP) software will be used to integrate a new TiVo into the home; using the SDDP software, the Control4 home automation system will find and include supported devices to the platform automatically. This will help in cutting down the installation and programming time of a Control4 automation system regardless of its size.

Info (Show): customers can call for information on a show and within seconds will be able to view all relevant details at a glance; My Shows: customers can check their own personal entertainment lineup within My Shows; What to Watch (coming later): customers can browse currently airing TV shows and movies spanning a variety of categories such as TV, Sports. Movies and programs for kids; Remote: customers will be able to control their entertainment options using two TiVo remote control options: a full-scale traditional TiVo remote, or use an intuitive remote control that is gesture-based.
