Inverto Delivers Entropic-based Unicable Multi-switches to Major Indian DBS Operator

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Inverto Digital Labs and Entropic (News - Alert) announced that a leading Indian direct broadcast satellite (DBS) operator has decided to deploy Inverto's Quad Unicable multi-switch based on Entropic’s EN5288. This deployment looks to enable the operator to improve the TV viewing experience of its subscribers in multi-dwelling units. This will enable the operator to deploy multiple tuners from a single cable existing within the trunk system of the building.

Inverto Digital Labs is engaged in the development of hardware products for broadcast streaming and reception. The company designs, validates, licenses and supports technology roadmaps for various global tier-1 satellite operators.

Entropic, meanwhile, is engaged in the development of semiconductors for connected home solutions. The company offers digital and analog CSS (News - Alert) products to deliver broadcast content to multiple tuners from a single cable. Entropic is known for being the first and the only company to deploy digital CSS product in the US market.

In a release, Gil Laifer, senior director of products at Inverto Digital Labs, said “We are working with a major India-based DBS operator who is taking a unique single-cable architecture approach to delivering entertainment and advanced services into the homes of its subscribers. By implementing our Unicable products with Entropic's advanced CSS technology, operators can increase average revenue per user, improve subscriber satisfaction and have the ability to reduce churn. Specifically, Unicable products allow upgrading services to users in multi-dwelling units without the need to change the single cabling architecture which is prevalent across the Indian market. These savings for the operator can be of a significant order.”

The multi-switch from Inverto is based on the CENELEC EN50494 standard, which allows broadcast programming to be delivered to eight STBs using a single coaxial cable. This will allow DBS operators to seamlessly deploy DVR and multi-room solutions using the company’s channel stacking switch (CSS).

Entropic’s EN5288 is deployed widely in various DBS solutions with the goal of reducing the costs and complexities associated with DBS installations. The switches are designed to meet the requirements of single family unit buildings as well as multiple dwelling unit buildings, offering the smallest package size and lowest bill of material component count.
