Sandvine Gains $5M Cable Order for BI and Optimization

By Tara Seals, TMCnet Contributor

Cable MSOs and telcos are busy making new investments in their networks, to expand capacity and provide better user experiences as online video and other bandwidth-intensive applications put a strain on the pipes. Now, it looks like that investment in infrastructure is trickling down into the BSS and OSS space: Sandvine (News - Alert) has received a follow-on order in excess of $5 million from a leading North American cable operator.

"Recently, our network analytics product has been a key component in enhancing the North American cable market's understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by popular video applications like Netflix and Hulu (News - Alert),” said Tom Donnelly, Sandvine's COO, sales and global services. “With over 10 years of intimate cable market knowledge we remain committed to continuing this unmatched history of innovation."

The unnamed operator has been a Sandvine customer since 2003, the company said, so the order represents ongoing expansion of its deployment of business intelligence and traffic optimization solutions. Sandvine also said that it expects to recognize most of the associated revenue in the first half of fiscal 2014.

Sandvine has been selling network policy control solutions to the cable market since 2003. While the company's markets have expanded significantly to include communications service providers that offer Internet access through wireless and DSL technologies, Sandvine has consistently maintained its market share lead in cable. Today, Sandvine's solutions are trusted by 7 of the top 10 cable MSOs in North America (including the largest cable operator in the world), representing 74 percent of the region's cable subscribers.
