Syancor to Provide Midcontinent Communications Cloud ID Auto Authentication

By Frank Griffin, TMCnet Contributing Writer

The telecom and cable industries are undergoing a merger and acquisition phase which will eventually result in fewer choices for consumers. Whether this will translate into fewer innovations only time will tell, but there are many third-party vendors introducing solutions that are making the way we communicate and watch entertainment more efficient. One of these companies is Syancor, a company that enables cable, satellite, telecom and consumer electronics companies to deliver TV Everywhere (TVE), digital entertainment, cloud-based services and apps to their end-customers.

As one of the most watched television events, the Winter Olympics provided service providers a ratings bonanza they can capitalize on with premium advertising. Midcontinent Communications, provider of data, video, phone and cable advertising services for residential and business customers in North and South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin, has chosen to use Syancor's Cloud ID Auto Authentication for Sochi TVE. According to Midcontinent, using the Syancor solution has resulted in TVE abandonment rate of under 10 percent compared to standard TVE abandonment rate of close to 50 percent.

The solution Syancor provides is used by more than 45 customers and 50+ content partnerships. The product is in 27 million high speed Internet households with an average of 55 million monthly search queries leaving an average of 32 billion monthly advertising impressions.

The platform simplifies the complex process of making TVE available across all different platforms by delivering content anytime and anywhere while allowing service providers to increase their customer base and monetize these engagements.

The Synacor (News - Alert)  Cloud ID Social Login with TV Everywhere Authorization allows consumers to login using their favorite social accounts like Facebook, Twitter or Google (News - Alert), which lets users authenticate, authorize and/or register, at any time or location, on any device.

The authentication services has been used for TVE events including 2012 March Madness, 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, the 2012 London Summer Olympics and now the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

The platform has been integrated with some of the leading pay-TV providers and channels including: DISH Network, Charter, CenturyLink, Mediacom,  as well as HBO GO, Max GO, CNN, TBS and TNT.

"Sochi offers some of the most exciting, must-see sports content of the year, and pay-TV subscribers should be able to catch the action wherever they are, on whatever device they choose. As a worldwide leader in TV Everywhere, Synacor is dedicated to helping consumers enjoy Sochi without stress and helping pay-TV providers deliver content without consumers abandoning," said Michael Bishara, Synacor's SVP of Product and GM of TV Everywhere.
