Vyve Brings Next-gen TiVo-based STBs to Rural Subs

By Tara Seals, TMCnet Contributor

Regional cable MSO Vyve Broadband is looking to bring next-generation TV features to its customer base with a new integration with TiVo (News - Alert).

The operator has partnered with the user interface specialist to develop advanced capabilities for its rural subscriber base using digital transport adapters (DTAs). The partnership represents a new strategic initiative for TiVo by bringing the TiVo UI to low-cost, next generation DTAs built by Evolution Digital, which provides a range of set-top boxes (STBs). Vyve will begin initial deployment of the TiVo offering in April.

Vyve serves subscribers across Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, Wyoming and Colorado. TiVo and Evolution Digital partnered to develop the DTA experience to facilitate Vyve's 140+ HD channel, all-digital video rollout. As Vyve retires its analog video services, the DTA will provide HD signals to all of the televisions in the home, in both new HD and older, analog sets.

Vyve will market and deploy TiVo's best-in-class user interface. It also provides access to all linear channels with enhanced guide and recommendations feature.

"As TiVo continues to expand from our DVR roots to provide rich media experiences to all devices, this initial foray in to the DTA arena is very important deal for the company,” said Thomas Elam, vice president and general manager of TiVo's service provider business. “TiVo is now in a new business area, one we are keen to rapidly expand, including the potential this partnership presents to provide additional products such as whole-home solutions. We couldn't be happier to make our inaugural DTA deployment with Vyve, a company that shares our innovative, customer-centric approach to television. We are confident that Vyve's subscribers will immediately enjoy the best TV viewing experience available anywhere."
