And the Emmy goes to...Tivo

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced they are awarding an Emmy to Tivo and, their subsidiary, Digitalsmiths. The award comes in recognition of the company’s role in creating the next generation of technology for home entertainment and revolutionizing the television experience. Tivo and Digitalsmiths were honored in the Television Enhancement Devices category and the Personalized Recommendation Engines for Video Diversity for Multichannel video Programming Distributors (MVPDs) category, respectively.
Digitalsmiths’ award comes in special recognition for their new product, Seamless Discovery, which has become the most-adopted personalized video search and recommendation platform in North America. Seven leading U.S. pay-TV providers have partnered with Digitalsmiths to create the most cutting edge experience in home entertainment. The collaboration will produce more video discovery features through personalized searches based on recommendations, mood, sport, social discovery, and more.
Tivo’s General Manager of Content, Applications, and Advertising, Evan Young, expressed confidence in the quality of TiVo’s (News - Alert) technology and experience. “TiVo has been at the forefront of shaping the next generation television experience since the company was founded. We are proud to be honored for our innovative technology leadership and for paving the way for an awesome home entertainment experience that still today, continues to evolve.”
Digitalsmiths CEO Ben Weinberger (News - Alert) echoed Young, saying “We are honored to be awarded an Emmy Award for Seamless Discovery and consider it further validation of the innovation that we are bringing to revolutionize the pay-TV industry. We know that a huge percentage of TV viewers are overwhelmed by the number of channels offered to them, yet the vast majority watch ten or fewer channels. To remain competitive, distributors must recognize the importance of delivering value to the customer through personalized video discovery.”
TiVo has also previously received four other Emmy awards from NATAS for its innovation and advancements in the home entertainment field.
