ZCorum Mobile App TechVizion Available Now to Cable MSOs

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

ZCorum announced that they would be making their mobile app TechVizion available to cable MSOs that have their own Operational Support System (OSS) for cable modem diagnostics.

In a release Scott Helms, ZCorum’s Vice President of Technology, said, “Most MSOs already have an investment in OSS, but have been struggling with a way to leverage mobile computing. MSOs are in need of a convenient and cost-effective mobile diagnostics solution for their technicians in the field, but it can be very costly to hire their own development team. TechVizion solves this problem.”

ZCorum specializes in providing broadband Internet and communication solutions to telcos, cable companies, utilities, and municipalities, helping them in broadband implementation, integration, engineering and consulting, network monitoring and diagnostics.

According to company sources, TechVizion has so far been available in conjunction with TruVizion, a Web-based software from the company that provides diagnostics and reporting for cable modems, CMTS and VoIP devices.

The use of mobile technology lets MSOs save costs on proprietary test gear like meters or DOCSIS analyzers but they can provide the information needed to pinpoint problems faster to supply field technicians. Using TechVizion, a technician can access current and historical data from any customer modem from any location, including RF stats, flaps, codeword errors, and bandwidth used.

Technicians can use a single touch to compare readings from the five closest modems and locate markers that will facilitate troubleshooting.

Arthur Skinner, Vice President of Business Development and Sales at ZCorum, stated, “Our team is excited about the opportunity to work with cable MSOs who have made significant investments in their OSS, but don’t have a convenient way to give their technicians modem diagnostics in a mobile format.”

TechVizion is compatible with Android (News - Alert) phones and tablets, as well as iPhones and iPads, revealed Skinner who added that the ability to have in-depth, current and historical data about the customer’s modem while on field will reduce time and money spent on installations and repair calls.

ZCorum also offers Internet services encompassing data and VoIP provisioning, e-mail, Web hosting, and 24x7 support for end-users. Service providers will be able to effectively serve local rural and suburban markets, said officials.

Recently Chaparral CableVision signed a multi-year agreement for managed broadband services and software with ZCorum. ZCorum now provisions the cable modems and provides 24 x 7 technical support for the broadband subscribers of the New Mexico-based cable operator. In addition, Chaparral staff will have access to ZCorum’s cable modem management and diagnostics application called TruVizion.
