By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

At the inaugural SCTE IP Challenge, which was sponsored by Cisco Systems Inc. and concluded Thursday evening in Atlanta, Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable Senior Network Engineer Steven Callahan was announced the winner, the company stated.

Working in Durham, N.C, Callahan became an SCTE member in January of this year. For becoming the champion, Callahan was awarded a trophy, one full-conference pass to Cisco (News - Alert) Live, and one full-conference pass to SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2012, the company stated in a press release.

“The SCTE IP Challenge pulled together the brightest individuals who truly have a deep understanding of what it takes to deploy and support IP services in today’s cable networks,” said Steve Harris, senior director, advanced network technologies program development for SCTE and creator of the IP Challenge. “The entire audience at our Expo venue was impressed with each participant’s level of IP knowledge and problem-solving skills during the final hands-on router configuration tasks that Cisco devised.”

To compete live in the championship rounds at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ (SCTE) flagship event, SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2011, which ended Thursday at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Callahan was one of nine semifinalists who had qualified in recent months.

The SCTE IP Challenge was created to drive awareness of the importance of foundational Internet Protocol (IP) knowledge among the SCTE membership. Apart from leveraging thought leadership around IPv6, the inaugural SCTE IP Challenge has served to promote interest around the benefits of IP to the cable industry, the company stated.

Recently, the company allowed its customers to watch the best of the Muppets sitting on their couch by switching on to the Movies On Demand on their TV. Users can have a choice to watch the adventures in these classic films perfect for everyone in the family.

The Muppets category is available now through December 5 by visiting the Movies On Demand channel, selecting the “By Genre” category and clicking on the “Muppets” option.

In other news, Time Warner Cable recently announced that it will premiere the second installment of It Ain't Rocket Science, an original program from its philanthropic initiative Connect a Million Minds, on NY1. It Ain't Rocket Science will go from New York to North Carolina to Colorado, Nebraska and back to continue to explore the wonders of science, engineering, technology and math.
