Tekelec to Demo ENUM-based Solution at NXTcomm08

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

North Carolina-based Tekelec (News - Alert) announced that it will be demonstrating its ENUM-based solution in a presentation at NXTcomm08 in Las Vegas next week.

The presentation is titled Successfully Traversing the Khyber Pass — Routing Calls with TekPath Route Director Across MSO Networks. The presentation will be delivered by Robby Benedyk, senior product manager for Tekelec’s TekPath Route Director product.

Tekelec’s ENUM solution is an advanced IP routing solution that facilitates operating expenditure (OPEX (News - Alert)) savings and provides improved quality of service for cable operators. The solution provides cable operators with end-to-end delivery of VoIP and multimedia services.

Tekelec provides core multimedia session control and network intelligence to ensure scalable, secure and highly available communications. The company’s signaling solutions facilitates inter-working of different network applications, technologies and protocols, providing a smooth transition to next-generation networks.

Robby Benedyk, senior product manager for Tekelec’s TekPath Route Director product, explains at the event how the company worked with other infrastructure providers to simplify IP service routing for operators thereby providing better quality of service and reducing OPEX for cable operators by focusing on implementing a more efficient way to route calls and multimedia sessions, across MSO networks.

Benedyk has presented a white paper called “ENUM: Call Routing in an all IP World.” He has also co-authored a new industry specification, the CableLabs (News - Alert) PacketCable ENUM Server Provisioning Specification (ESPP) that is aligned for effort and the resulting interoperability agreement.

“As operators look to improve their bottom line and increase customer loyalty, their networks must evolve to deliver converged, personalized communications, while maintaining a high quality of service,” said Benedyk, in the statement, “With the ability to route calls and multimedia sessions over an all IP, SIP-based network, operators cut costs and consumers can benefit from an improved overall experience.”

The company is a member of IMS/NGN Forum and will be participating in the IMS/NGN Forum’s announcement of Plugfest 5 results. The Forum is an association that is dedicated to interoperability and certification of IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) and Next Generation Network (NGN) applications and services. It offers comprehensive interoperability events covering NGN services over wireless, wireline and cable broadband.

The Plugfest 5 has contributed to the success of previous interoperability events to test policy controls, load balancing/sharing, charging/billing, user profiles, authorization credentials, service profiles and femtocell integration. It is said that the company’s TekCore Session Manager has been one of the reference CSCFs for every Plugfest, according to the company.

The Plugfest 5 results will be announced by executives of the participating companies at the presentation
