OptiCon Demonstrates New Software to Fiber-Optic Providers

By Shireen Dee, TMCnet Contributor

OptiCon Systems, a provider of solutions for network management, recently announced that it has started demonstrating its R-3.8.0.0 software to key fiber-optic providers. The software is said to be compatible with latest oracle database products, Microsoft Operating Systems and GIS (Geographic Information System) technology from MapInfo (News - Alert).
Initially developed and deployed by Corning Cable, OptiCon Systems has been providing companies with network management solutions for the past 10 years.
For cable operators and telephone systems who have already deployed or who have plans to launch the fiber-optic cable in future, OptiCon’s latest version aims to provide management structure for a physical fiber-optic cable network.
With online demonstrations of its R-3.8.0.0 version of the fiber management software, OptiCon’s software will be accessible widely. It will also provide support through telephone and e-mail mediums. Interactive Web-based support will also be available. With plans of expansion of sales and marketing in Europe, the company will be opening an office in the United Kingdom in August 2008.
In its first phase of growth, OptiCon plans to concentrate its forces on getting previous clients and communication companies like Level 3 Communications, AT&T (News - Alert) (American Telephone and Telegraph) and Brighthouse Networks that still use the earlier versions of OptiCon's software to subscribe to agreements for maintenance.
In their second phase, they intend to work towards attracting new customers by marketing the R-3.8.0.0 to potential customers like Sprint (News - Alert)/Nextel, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Vodafone and others.
The company provides solutions that are applicable not only in the physical and logical layers but also help to enable fault detection on fiber-optic systems via software, professional services, and integrated systems. Being scalable it can be used both by medium-sized companies managing a single facility LAN (Local-area networks) as well as by large telecom companies which service innumerable global customers.
"The latest version of the OptiCon software is more robust and effective than ever. With significant improvements to our reporting capabilities, particularly in the provisioning segment, we are excited to be able to bring the most up to date capabilities to our current customers and to other telecom companies looking for the best solution in managing their fiber networks," commented Sam Talari, chairman of OptiCon Systems.
