RocketStream Unveils RocketConnect Platform to Address Last-Mile Connectivity

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Nearly one-third of digital subscriber line and cable modem subscribers are dissatisfied with the performance of their access connections, IT analysts reportedly are saying.

A broadband acceleration platform, which addresses the last-mile connectivity issues in customer broadband access, can help Internet service providers provide a satisfactory service to their customers, according to Adriana Waterston, telecommunications industry analyst.

That help is on the way.

RocketStream, a company that develops technologies and solutions to accelerate digital content delivery over high-bandwidth IP networks, announced its new RocketConnect broadband access acceleration platform to tackle the last-mile connectivity bottlenecks in broadband access.

According to RocketStream (News - Alert), consumers spend more than $10 billion worldwide on broadband access to the Internet. However, the “last mile” connections often aggravate speed bottlenecks and hamper consumers’ online experience.

RocketConnect achieves the result by enabling telecommunications companies and to speed the effective bandwidth of their customers’ broadband access connections by up to 500 percent without the need of any extra physical infrastructure.

By reducing speed bottlenecks and offering a cost-effective platform, RocketConnect helps service providers offer a more streamlined online experience, including accelerated Web browsing and faster downloads to customers.

Here's how the company diagrams the performance of its technology:

A subsidiary of Voyant (News - Alert) International Corporation, RocketStream develops and markets software-based data transfer acceleration solutions to enable faster data transfer and a secure and reliable Internet access. RocketStream solutions are ideally used to transfer large data over long-distances, without requiring additional spending on new hardware.

RocketConnect, according to the company, is an extremely cost-effective solution for ISPs to deliver better service and enhance end-user satisfaction. The platform can be used to enhance digital subscriber line, wireless, satellite, cable or fiber access connections.

A software-based platform, RocketConnect can be installed quickly with minimal disruption to existing customers. The solution creates a streamlined, software-defined tunnel over the access connection between the ISP’s server infrastructure and the customer’s modem or computer, where conventional access methods often present a bandwidth bottleneck.

The most advantageous feature of RocketConnect is that unlike other proposed solutions that require an infrastructure replacement to enhance last-mile connectivity, RocketConnect provides a fast, easy-to-deploy solution that does not require an extra hardware.

According to RocketStream President Jay Elliot, telcos and other ISPs are desperately searching for low-cost ways to gain a competitive advantage, and RocketConnect alleviates some of the industry’s most vexing access performance problems.

“RocketConnect represents a simple – yet effective – way to boost broadband access speeds,” Elliot said. “We expect that DSL providers, in particular, will find this to be a great tool for customer retention and satisfaction.”
