Cavium Processor Chosen by French Service Provider for its Triple-Play Home Gateway

Cavium Networks announced that French service provider SFR, has selected its OCTEON CN50XX processor family for its next-generation gigabit triple-play home gateway, the “neufbox.”
 
The company provides semiconductor products which enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless and security applications. The OCTEON CN50XX Processor (News - Alert) Family offers a cost-optimized low-power solution suitable for next- generation home gateways which support fiber speed WAN connections and Gigabit LAN connections with 802.11n multi-hundred Mbps wireless connections.
 
It also offers support for voice, video and data, securely and with Quality of Service (QoS) in a single processor based system.
 
SFR (News - Alert) is involved in FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) deployment in France. SFR selected OCTEON among several others owing to its high performance, low power consumption and compatibility with future applications and service deployments required for the “neufbox.”
 
“Cavium’s dual-core OCTEON processors were built to meet and exceed the performance and power requirements of next-generation home networking gateways,” said Andy Rava, vice president of sales at Cavium Networks (News - Alert). “We are excited to support SFR and their plans to offer high-performance WAN connectivity with rich multimedia delivery.”
 
The OCTEON CN50XX family allows the customer to select between 1 or 2 custom 64-bit MIPS core devices which operate at 300-700 MHz frequencies with multiple software and pin compatible processor options. OCTEON CN50XX includes a processor core, integrated 128 KB L2 cache, QoS, TCP, packet and security co-processing in hardware with interfaces like TDM/PCM, multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PCI and USB 2.0 among others.
 
The cost optimized feature rich OCTEON CN50XX processor is well suited for the high bandwidth broadband deployments in Europe, Japan and North America.
