By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Comtrol has announced the launch of the RocketLinx MC family of industrial grade serial and Ethernet fiber media converters. The new RocketLinx MC5001 and MC7001 products can perform in the harshest of environments, and are ideally suited for both EMI immunity and extended fiber transmission requirements.
Comtrol’s RocketLinx MC product family works for all applications that need serial and Ethernet communication across environments that are susceptible to surges or electrical noise. These products are also ideally suited for industrial applications.
The RocketLinx MC5001 and MC7001 products come with a distinctive mix of features, including support of Single-mode and Multi-mode ports for long distance transmission and extended operating temperature ranges of -20? to 70? C (MC5001) and -10? to 70? C (MC7001).
These products also feature a wide range of DC input voltages, and rigid aluminum housings that are IP30 (MC5001) and IP31 (MC7001) rated for installation in hazardous applications.
Comtrol’s new RocketLinx MC5001 and MC7001 products also offer support for RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 serial communication for all models. These products also use terminal block wiring connectors, and DIP switch configuration of serial port and communication modes.
According to Ehssan Taghizadeh, president and COO of Comtrol, it’s very important for their organization to meet the expanding needs of their customer base. He noted that the launch of the RocketLinx MC products represents the first of many products in this family that will allow Comtrol to offer a complete line of industrial fiber and Ethernet solutions.
Comtrol specializes in device connectivity, industrial Ethernet gateways, and intelligent embedded device connectivity products for a wide range of industrial and traffic/transportation applications. In January, the company launched the RocketPort uPCI SMPTE 2-Port serial card and the BroadPort 550, a rack-mountable 16-Port serial card complete with a DCE/DTE switch.
