Belden Intros IP Category Unshielded Twisted Pair Cables
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
Belden reportedly announced the expansion of its New Generation cable line by adding four new IP Category 5e and Category 6 unshielded twisted pair cables. Belden develops signal transmission solutions for the enterprise, industrial, building management, and broadcast and security markets.
Integrated Power over Ethernet is provided in a single cable now which does not require an external power source. The new cables are most suitable for use with digital sound, video and security systems for linking low-voltage security devices like security cameras, CCTV, keypads and intercoms.
The cables help system designers, integrators and installers to provide high-quality, reliable sound, video and security systems to customers cost effectively. The four new cables comply with the ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B (News - Alert).2-2001 Standard. The cables are available in riser- and plenum-rated versions.
The Category 5e cables have 24 AWG solid bare copper conductors, and their “riser version” comes with a polyolefin insulation and PVC jacket with rip cord, while the “plenum version” has FEP Teflon insulation and Flamarrest jacket with rip cord.
The Category 6 cables come with solid bare copper conductors. The riser version (24 AWG) has polyolefin insulation and PVC jacket with rip cord. The plenum version (23 AWG) features a FEP Teflon insulation and Flamarrest jacket with rip cord. Again both cables are sweep tested to 250 MHz.
Black jackets are provided with all the four cables. The length is marked sequentially every 2 feet with count down from 1,000 which eliminates confusion and time waste. These value-priced cables offer more cabling options to the sound and security industry, said the company.
Belden caters to Enterprise, Industrial, Infrastructure, Transportation, Professional and Enterprise Audio and Video, and Government applications. It takes care of communications infrastructure requirements for customers, providing them signal transmission solutions. The company also offers copper and fiber cabling/connectivity systems, wireless technologies, and active switch devices.
