Cable Onda Deploys PeerApp for Video Caching Services

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Panama’s Cable TV operator and Triple play provider, Cable Onda has deployed PeerApp’s solutions to provide its customers with video caching services. Cable Onda claims that by making use of PeerApp solutions it was able to increase its streaming video delivery and file downloads up to four folds and also save money on transit budget.

PeerApp is a provider of intelligent media caching solutions that help network operators manage multimedia content to improve network efficiency and enhance subscribers' Quality of Experience (QoE).

For video caching services Cable Onda is now using PeerApp's UltraBand1000, a peer-to-peer (P2P) caching solution designed for ISPs, who are beginning to address the P2P challenge. This solution can be used to manage open P2P traffic, commercial P2P content delivery, and HTTP video streaming.

Cable Onda says that its internet subscriber base is fast growing and the intelligent caching and content acceleration technology they have received from PeerApp has enabled them to offer the best video internet experience available to their customers.

Users are watching an increasingly more number of videos in the net through Websites like YouTube (News - Alert) and sharing their own custom videos via sites like rapidshare and bittorrent. Because of this the volume of traffic is growing exponentially. Cable Onda's Technology Director, Diego Eleta has stated that the company is already purported as an expert in video services and they are hoping to establish the same with internet services.

Eleta admits that using PeerApp media caching technology is providing them with a competitive edge and helping them increase their subscriber base faster and keep their customer satisfaction rates higher.

PeerApp Chairman and CEO Robert Mayer has commented that Cable Onda has chosen to be proactive and recognize the Video Internet as a business opportunity rather than a threat and that is why deploying UltraBand is an important part of their strategy. With the UltraBand system, network operators no longer have to make trade-offs between service quality and profit margins. PeerApp solutions are advantageous to everyone, CableOnda, their subscribers, and the content providers.

Service providers who have deployed PeerApp technology have exclaimed that present day customers are demanding delivery of content faster than the submarine cable can provide. Transparent caching is the only practical solution that delivers content at the velocity that customers demand. The UltraBand is the best caching solution that is not just a competitive differentiator for them but also a money saver.

Meanwhile Allot (News - Alert) Communications and PeerApp have announced a joint solution that is expected to enable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to manage network bandwidth costs and increase subscriber loyalty. PeerApp was also awarded a key patent from the European Patent Office (EPO) for technology that enables peer-to-peer (P2P) content distribution and acceleration.
