Portuguese Cable Operator ZON TVCabo Selects Jungo's Broadband Software Solutions

ZON TVCabo, a subsidiary of ZON Multimedia and Portugal’s triple-play cable operator, has selected Jungo’s (News - Alert) broadband software solutions to support the operator’s residential and business customers.
Specifically, ZON TVCabo has selected the company’s OpenRG and OpenSMB DOCSIS 3.0 gateway middleware for its new ZON Net Wideband and ZON Empresas home and small office gateways, as well as the newly available SCR (Support Cost Reduction) offering for cable operators and the JRMS (Jungo Remote Management System).
“We were seeking to provide our customers with DOCSIS 3.0 gateways with wireless and voice capabilities that deliver the highest possible value while minimizing our capital expenditure. We realized early on that hardware and software do not need to come from the same vendor and, in fact, that the separation of the two is a great way to enable true flexibility now and in the future,” said Luis Lopes, executive director of ZON Multimedia, in a statement.
Nuno Sanches, Internet Products Director at ZON TVCabo said that the company selected Jungo for the software side of the equation as they are the market experts in hardware-agnostic gateway middleware.
Thanks to Jungo technology, home subscribers would now be able to enjoy the broadest spectrum of multimedia offerings, including complete broadband access, 802.11n wireless, IP telephony, highly secure high-speed web access, print sharing, file sharing, UpNP AV media sharing – all without the need for additional devices.
Jungo’s “office-in-a-box” solution will benefit small business users. The solution delivers a wide range of valuable business features such as advanced PBX (News - Alert) over SIP capabilities for multiple users as well as two PacketCable voice ports for fax and a credit card swipe reader, all with minimized setup and maintenance costs.

Rom said that more and more operators are realizing the significant benefits of the company’s flexible broadband software solutions.
