Ekinops Aids Subisu CableNet with Network Expansion in Nepal

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Nepalese service provider Subisu CableNet reportedly is using optical transport equipment from Ekinops to launch a major network expansion.

Prior to the installation, Subisu was primarily a Kathmandu-based cable provider and ISP. But now it has been transformed to a national, multi-city provider of enterprise and transport services.

For the expansion initiative, Subisu was searching for a cost-effective DWDM solution. The Nepalese service provider also wanted the solution to support multiple protocols, including Gigabit Ethernet, STM-1, STM-4, and STM-16.

The company decided on the Ekinops (News - Alert) 360 featuring DynaMux capability which allows any mix of protocols to be multiplexed over a single wavelength or transport service. Subisu also picked the Ekinops 360 platform for its flexible add/drop capabilities because it allows them to better serve customers throughout Nepal.

The new Subisu optical network currently links five cities via four segments. The network will be expanded to additional cities later this year.

Subisu Chief Planning Officer Binaya Saud said he hopes that the compact Ekinops 360 platform will allow them to deliver Layer 2 Ethernet and MPLS services for enterprise customers as well as SDH and wavelength services for carrier customers.

Saud also appreciates Ekinops for advising them on a cost-effective, flexible, and power-efficient design that addresses both immediate needs and future expansion.

The Ekinops solution provides flexible support for all Subisu services and helps accommodate DWDM, CWDM (coarse wavelength division multiplexing) and 1310 nm capability on the same platform.

The T-Chip (Transport on a Chip) design of the Ekinops 360, with all the optical transport intelligence on a single chip, ensures that the power needs are kept as low as possible for Subisu. This is especially important in a nation struggling with power issue.

Didier Bredy, CEO of Ekinops believes that their equipment strongly positions Subisu to provide reliable and high-quality nationwide service to customers cost-effectively.

“This is another example of how Ekinops, thanks to the T-Chip, continues to provide the best optical transport technology at an appealing price point for service provider customers.”
