Broadcom Integrates Microsoft Mediaroom Client into BCM7405 STB System-on-Chip Solution

Broadcom has now completed the interoperability testing between the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV (News - Alert) multimedia platform and the Broadcom BCM7405, the company reported this week.
 
Broadcom, a dealer in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, said the  BCM7405 is a high-performance, high-definition satellite, cable, and IP set-top box DVR System-on-Chip solution.
 
With this, Microsoft (News - Alert) Mediaroom customers can enjoy innovative connected TV services from their service providers. Providers can deploy the high performing chipset in second generation set-top boxes to provide customers with new, richer TV applications.
 
Broadcom (News - Alert) has claimed that the BCM7405 system on a chip technology will enable users to enjoy an extensive collection of features, including whole-home digital video recording, digital content sharing and high-performance user interfaces and the BCM7405’s completion of this Mediaroom client integration underscores the continued commitment by Microsoft and Broadcom to make connected TV services a reality for everyone.
 
The chip has been integrated with support for existing Mediaroom features, such as instant channel change, high definition (HD) video-on-demand (VoD), ‘DVR anywhere’ and multi-view and also has support for interactive TV applications based on the new Mediaroom Presentation Framework which enables service providers around the globe to offer richer multi-room connected entertainment environments in the home.
 
Steve Koepp, senior manager of business development of TV, Video & Music Business at Microsoft Corp has stated that Broadcom’s completion of Mediaroom client integration represents a significant milestone for the expansion of the Microsoft Mediaroom ecosystem by providing their service provider customers and set-top box OEM partners additional choice in silicon.
 
Broadcom has added that they are excited to achieve this milestone that showcases their ongoing and long-term commitment to support Microsoft Mediaroom and deliver innovative IPTV services.
 
LG Electronics (News - Alert) recently selected Broadcom’s DVB-Based Digital TV and Zinwell (News - Alert) opted for Broadcom SoC solution to enhance users’ TV experience.
